Dear Friends,

What is spring? For me it was the first buttercups pushing their way through the patches of snow on my Montana mountainside. I watched my mother’s delight as she carefully floated them in a bowl of water. In Florida we watch the traffic diminish as many of our friends return north.

Here at Lithos we’ve been so busy working to give our web site a fresh look. We’ve also created many new clasps to add to our growing collection of designs.

It’s easy to buy diamonds, correct? One only has to remember the 4 C’s of Clarity, Color, Carat and Cut. One of the 4 C’s is totally misunderstood. It is the CUT GRADE. Too many people believe this is the SHAPE of the diamond. The shape of a diamond is the physical appearance. It can be the full cut round brilliant, the emerald, the princess, the pear, the trillion, the oval or the marquise. Of these shapes there are many trademarked cuts. There is the Tolkowsky, the Lucida, the Novo and the Trielle. This list seems to be endless. The facet (the cuts on the diamond) arrangements are slightly different in each designer cut. The cut grade specifically addresses the light return of the diamond. The most perfectly cut diamonds have the most scintillation. Yes, these diamonds do cost more. The more precisely a diamond is faceted the more of the rough material is lost diminishing the weight.
