Dear Friends,

The first weekend of February always finds us in Tucson. The city hosts the largest gem show in the world. This event actually began over 50 years ago in the city of Quartzsite, AZ. The miners from Mexico would bring their mineral specimens to the city to sell them. Finally, the Tucson Mineral Society organized a formal show and the miners came there. Our first trips to Tucson evoke interesting memories of pick-up trucks with their beds filled with rocks, dilapidated motels, dirt roads with planks to walk on if it rained and minerals we’d never seen. Today it is a sophisticated city housing a sophisticated show. There is everything anyone could hope to buy and more; fine jewelry, carvings, healing stones, beads, minerals, wood, cloth, antiquities and brilliant gemstones. This vast, contained array of goods affords an easy opportunity to secure comparables for our appraisals. There are dealers representing most of the countries of the world. It is an eclectic mix of the knowledgeable and the ignorant. Every year we think there will be nothing new. Can you imagine our surprise that the bunch of grapes on the table was actually a grouping of nodular agates from China?

Many of our customers have requested that we carry a less expensive line of clasps. We have added to our collection many new silver clasps that begin at $150.00. Lornie has been busy updating the web site so you can preview the new selection.

As spring approaches we begin our cleaning and preparations to rid ourselves of memories of a long winter. Along with the house, it is a wonderful time to clean out the jewelry box. The price of gold has never been higher. We, at Lithos Jewelry, are licensed by the state of Florida to buy gold and silver. We do so discretely and privately. We also buy diamonds and fine gemstones.
